Free ATI 3D RAGE PRO AGP 2X update needed

I NEED a FREE ATI 3D RAGE PRO 2X driver update...I have been searching the web and regularly get a site hawking "Driver Detective" that boasts it has found one , BUT when you try to get it they want to charge you for it...I have also tried the ATI/ADM website but there are SOOO many programs..I tried to use their "search" but could NOT get an exact match...There are similar titles , but I am leary of downloading the wrong program & screwing up my computer...( I am a NEWBIE )..I've also tried this website & obviously could NOT find one or I would"nt be here....A website or an exact location ( even a "link ) where I can download the updates WOULD be GREATLY APPRECIATED..Thank you VERY much...RON PS: The original driver is dated 8/17/2001...Yes that's old , but I can NOT afford a new computer...

Thanks for a LIGHTING fast response...Yes , I'm using Windows XP....I used your link ( Thanks for providing it ) & could NOT find an update for my card...They have a COMPLETE download listed for 3D RAGE PRO AGP 2X ,But I can NOT find it... Also , is this a COMPLETE replacement for what I already have ??? And/or does it include updates??

You do have to register with the site to get the download, but they say that registering is free.

This driver is dated Oct.2007
I doubt there is anything newer.

This is a complete driver but it should replace the driver you are currently using, so in essence it is an "upgrade".

 

Dear joelsz : Sorry I haven't responded sooner..I was hospitalized with a SEVERE case of suspected food poisioning...I was released yesterday at 4:00 PM...When I got home , I found your email..I used your link to Charydent.com..I tried to register using my email address & password as requested by the site...I was told an email with an activation code would be sent shortly (minutes) to me..I tried this TWICE...It is now Sunday 11:54 AM & NO email has arrived...I contacted Charydent directly thru their website explaining the non-response of the activation code email...I'm waiting for an answer...If & when (hopefully soon) they do , I WILL reconnect with you...I suspect a delay due to the holiday...PATIENCE ! ! In the meantime I wish you & your family a SAFE & HAPPY holiday...

I also tried to sign up for a password and have not received the clearance email either.

I believe I've located the driver file you need.
I downloaded it from DriverGuide (of which I am a member) and uploaded the file to my personal website for you to download from there.

Dear joelsz: Sorry , I couldn't reply sooner but I'm still not over this bug yet....GOOD GRIEF , Charlie Brown, Here we go again...I downloaded the file from your email link & guess what...During installation I got the following message; "File can NOT be unpacked (whatever that means ? ? ) & The executable you are attempting to run is CORRUPTED !!" I also went to DriverGuide.com & tried to register to use their site...And I got NO return email from them either...That's 2 websites that apparently don't want new members or I don't qualify for some reason...I want you to know that I really appreciate what you are doing for me...Question is,what's next ? ? I can't imagine why the file you tried before was corrupted.
I've never had that problem with DriverGuide before.

BTW that first site never did send me the promised email.

 

Dear joelsz ; That SHOULD DOOD it !!! The file downloaded & installed PERFECTLY !!! However during installation , I got a screen that said "The previously installed version was NEWER" & asked if I wanted to overwrite that program..I went NO to the overwrite...I checked the original program date & it was 2/17/2001...This program I just installed has a date of 2/28/2002...Can you tell me if that is the MOST recent ? Will I have to update this one ? Soon ? OR should I just fly with this as is ? Once again , THANK YOU VERY MUCH for ALL your help....RON

I have no idea if there is a later version of this driver.
With XP being phased out though, I doubt there will be any further revisions.
Personally, I have never updated a driver unless some new application has needed something the older one didn't provide.
At least on one occassion I updated a driver and then reverted back to the old one, because the newer was not better, but in fact wasn't as good as the older.
I understand the desire to be on the "cutting edge" of technology, but there is some truth in the adage that newer is not always better.

 

Dear joelsz; OK , I'll stay with this program....It also has some new features I'm going to learn about that the original didn't have....I can NOT begin to thank you & MajorGeeks enough for ALL YOUR HELP...One last thing....How do I end this thread & mark it "Case Closed Successfully":-D

The only complaint I have about MG is that there is no way to mark a thread successfully closed.
