Free/cheap Alternative For Windows File History?

With Windows 11 the builtin file history has serious downsides:

    * cannot add individual folders for backup, seems limited to the user directory, excluding AppData/ etc.
    * does not show error/warnings if something cannot be backed up
    * pruning never worked for me

Are there any alternatives out there? Everything I found up to now is either expensive or crap.

    TY!

I've been using FreeFileSync for years now and highly recommend it. While I don't use file versioning, it does provide that option.

That's just a regular file sync utility.

You can set up FreeFileSync to autostart, do real time sync, and then specify to sync certain folders/files while versioning certain other folders/files.

Yes, I can use Google Drive for that, too. But it doesn't give a consistent snapshot view over the entire dataset.
