Free Data recovery software

Is there any free data recovery software?
Also any free disk wiping software?

 

Ccleaner (which is much beloved here - and is a good program) is free and has a disc-wiping tool within it.

As to data recovery, I just did that (unfortunately) and found that using a (free) bootable CD and copying my data to a USB external drive worked well.

....that approach might not work for all situations tho

it is best to make an image/duplicate of the drive before making any recovery attempts. each and every time you access a drive, there will be the possibility that the information you want could be harder to get. If you are only looking for 1 or 2 files, then it's probably not necessary. If possible, do like the above, and use an external usb drive, or if you have an available internal, then that will work too. It's been a while since i've looked, so unfortunately I don't have any idea as to which software to use for the image. however, once you get that done, and working from the copy, you can run a program like recuva (same people who make Ccleaner)

 

A free data recovery software can't recover a large amount of data so if your data is of large amount and worthy for you then go for "Kernel for FAT and NTFS" hard disk data recovery software for the recovery of your data.

Now we talk about disk wiping software; you can simply use any software like Partition Magic to format or re size your hard drive but if you want that no one can recover any of the data from the drive then you should use "Kernel file shredder" after which no data recovery software can recover any of the data and file from the hard drive.

 

The best free data recover software I have been able to find is Recuva. If you know of another, let me know.......my system is win7 Ultra 64 bit...Thanks
