    Hi

You will get many replies to this with various sugestions and none are wrong and none are right, many of the free AVs are good and just as good as retail IMHO, I use Avast which has a free version here

    But many use
    AVG
    Microsoft Security Essentials
    AntiVir
    PCtools

etc etc so best AV is one that you like the GUI and layout of, also dont rely on antivirus for your PC security, its a combination on a few thinsg, keeping your Windows version upto date, keeping all your software and Antivirus/security software upto date and safe surfing, if you download from P2P or unsafe sites then you are open to malware and no matter how good your antivirus is you've let the malware in already.

A great guide to read How to Protect yourself from malware! (has links to some of the ones I mentioned above)

    Greetings, saleema...

Agreed with Halo - find the program that best suits you, that updates automatically, is unobtrusive, and is not a resource hog...

Avast! can be free too though after a grace period, it will ask you for a permanent license which is also free though one has to register the product. I like Avast so I don't mind going the extra mile, anyways, it's always the same key so save it somewhere as you'll need it again in 14 months IIRC. I have a 'password/key' folder on hotmail so I won't lose that if I have to format again!:-D

Hey there, I Concur avast not bad at all.

Some Comodo products arent too bad, had a high opinon this until the internet security got nailed - the sality virus got into the system..grr. Comodo support isnt the best but its pretty comprehensive and has some good options. Seems like everyone so far thinks Avast is right up there. Check it out,see if its for you.

Personally I like AntiVir coupled with a few other things but I cant recall one problem with AntiVir. Some people dont like it because of the advertisement that pops up promoting the paid version while it updated the definitions daily. Since I'm such a fan I don't get bothered by the pop-up.

Read through the link in Halo's post and choose what you think you be best for you.
