Cannot install Spell Checker for OE 2.1 because access to the following file is denied: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\proof\Csapi3tl.dll

Hello , I am trying to find out what that message is for... I also have spell checker for OE, and I couldn't live without it! Did you do a search on your computer for it? What is yoru OS? XP or Vista? I have XP, and had no problem downloading it, so this is interesting.... Do a search on your system, go to SEARCH, and copy and paste "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\proof\Csapi3tl.dll" and look and see where it is and what it is.. I just checked mine, and I don't have it... Very interesting.. Once we find out what that is, we can pick it back up and see how to work around it...

    Hi,

Found the programme and it comes up with

Microsoft CSAPI Converter (V3 to V1) does that help? If not, what do you need?

    Many thanks:)

OK, don't panic now, we are going to have to bring in some of the big boys on this one now... I use that program and I don't get errors, and it works fine... What kind of AV do you have, and have you scanned for malware? If you THINK you are infected, go to the malware thread, and FOLLOW the RUN AND READ ME FIRST, and follow the instructions...

I have never had that program fail, and I don't know what else it could be... I will send out for some more help on this, so don't give up yet... We all use spell check at one time or another.... It does sound to me like something is going on, for sure.... Keep an eye on this thread, OK? It may not be until morning when we can catch someone tho.... I will try, and leave some notes... ;)

Thanks!!!! The laptop has AVG Free anti virus (as does our other laptop which is XP, but that one's fine with that particular spell checker) I will most certainly keep an eye on this thread......I only hope that all your hard work pays off......for both of us!!! :)

How is it that you are using Outlook Express in Vista? Vista doesn't have/can't run Outlook Express, it has a new program called Windows Mail. You first need to set up Windows Mail in place of Outlook Express and then we can look at spellcheckers.

EDIT - don't use Windows Mail myself, but I see it has a built in spell checker for US English.

Along with Earthling's comments, why are you even talking about a spell checker for OE when your OS is Vista, which does not have OE? Are you using Windows Mail? If so, see Enabling Spell Checker In Windows Mail.

Thanks guys......all sorted now! ALWAYS still refer to Windows Mail as OE.....old habits die hard. And I DID say I wasn't that computer literate!

Thanks again. No doubt will be requiring your help in the futiure!:wave

I downloaded the Spell Checker for OE 2.1 (by vampirefo) from the Major Geeks site because I need English not French spell checking. When I install the program, I can't get outlook express to work. When I unistall, OE works but checks in French only. (I have done this 2 times.) Do you have any suggestions? Thank you for your time.
