Free video editor

Once again I call upon the wise geeks on which program to use. This time it's some video editing. It's for a school project. What I want to do is get a Windows error or BSOD on video and change the text to suit the subject I need it for. What I want is:

1)Capture video from my PC screen. If it's not possible I'll just shoot it with a normal camera and import it.

2) Add effects/layers to the vid and import objects.

I don't know how you could capture it other than putting a camera or camcorder in front of the screen. Other than that, you could try making your own BSOD. I don't know what font is used but once it's made into a video, some of the sharpness of the original still image would probably be lost so it might not matter.

What about editing it, after it's captured (by any mean)? I don't want the usual error codes on it, remember?

 

Do you just want a single frame screenshot of a BSOD if so just use an image and import that into your video - there is one here?
