Freeware Sims-like game?

    The Sims is a pretty old game now, has anyone released a freeware adaptation of it that can run on modern systems? Kind of like how Lincity is a freeware adaptation of SimCity and OpenRCT2 is a WIP (as far as I know) freeware version of Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, even going as far as using some original game resources while rebuilding the game engine from scratch. I think a freeware clone of The Sims would be great, I just can't seem to find it. Does something like this exist?
