TCP Optimizer generally seems to work well.

What kinds of problems are you having, or what do you want to fix?

my internet browsing is extremely slow. And I just completed a "speed up my XP" course I took from CNET.Ive tried different browsers(opera, firefox, avant,IE(((ive found IE works faster for me than the others)))))but I use ccCleaner & Easycleaner almost daily so i know my systems as clean as can be.But im a complete rookie when it comes to like TCP & bandwidth(i know mines 704.9 according to speakeasy.net)Im just very frustrated w/the performance of my xp.I just downloaded tune up utilities 2006 & ran all there was to run.So maybe you have some suggestions for me?

If you have braodband here's a link to DSL Reports which provides a page of tests and some tweaks. Click on Tools on the Home page.

for my comments on SmartClose. (thanks COMPUABLE).

It certainly gets rid of unneccesary running processes for me. Tackle it slowly, at first, though, as it closes, by default, all the processes and services it thinks you don't need.

You can build up a list of the stuff that you want to run, and it will leave these alone, for example, like your Firewall and AV programs.

I use it close down all unneccesary stuff after I exit the Net, but there is no reason why it cannot be used in reverse. Just takes a bit more work.

To Optimize Windows XP: You might want to try Advanced WindowsCare which is a fairly good, simple and easy-to-use freeware program that optimizes your windows configuration can produce very positive results. The program examines the Windows system and detects the obstructions for slowing down and crashing, fixes the problems and repairs Windows. If you run into trouble, the Restoration option can return your system to its original configuration.

Important Note: Use great caution before attempting to alter your system using the Advanced WindowsCare "Startup Items Option". Any user regardless of skill can use this program, with the notable exception of the "startup items option" which offers to modify your start up configuration. If you are not a computer professional you are best off not changing your startup items while using the Advanced WindowsCare startup items alteration option. In my opinion; the developers should have placed warning on the startup items option; because an incorrect decision while modifying your computers start up configuration can severely damage your computer’s performance.

To Optimize Your Internet Connection: As a previous forum member posted, the utility called TCP Optimizer seems to work well for many folks. Although the utility comes will no help file you can always check out the Speedguide.Net Broadband Tweaks Forum for tips on how to use the utility as well as tips on improving your internet speed. The Speedguide.Net website also has a General Broadband Forum for the support of cable and DSL users

Also you might want to try Doctor TCP which is a Windows utility for modifying your TCP stack. However you should use DrTCP only in conjunction with the advice from the DSLreports.com Tweak Test. The DSL Reports "Broadband Tweaks Forum" can be found here.

Note: The DSLreports.com Tweak Test section of this website is often very busy; as this site is very popular so the Tweak Test section is often overwhelmed by the number of people accessing it all day long. Therefore, it may take several attempts to actually get any test results. Additionally, the Broadband Tweaks Forum is a very good resource for tips as well as a great place to look for help with your internet connectivity problems.

    Good Luck!
