Can you please help it seems that my computer in the last week has started freezing up randomly even in safe mode it will freeze. I have run every possible thing I can think of and removed every recent program added but none of this seems to help, I am starting to think that my Motherboard is giving up the ghost or my bios has issues.

Hi well I have done most of that before my computer got to the point that it doesn't even make it through start up that is why I tried safe mode in which it froze there when i was shutting down Hijackthis after viewing it to see if there was any problems. I Shall try the few things i haven't done in the list that you gave me the link for thankyou very much and will let you know from there. I appreciate the help very much.

Possibly some type of automatic scan running in the background.
Also, when was your last defrag? May be searching for needed files.
How much RAM is installed? What speed? insufficient can cause this as your machine has to wait until some becomes available.

Also, if this has occurred only in the last week, do you possibly have an older system restore point available? Sometimes things go awry in an update and while you may be able to troubleshoot it, the easiest way may be to restore to an earlier setting. The fact that it freezes in safe mode would tend to rule out most virus scans that I know of. But yes, what are your system specs?

thankyou for all your help as I had done all the other stuff except the testing the Ram I yanked them and reset just one inplace and the problem seems cured. I have yet to actually be able to do the ram test with the program you suggested as I don't have a cd rom mine are both dvd so I can't burn the disk and I am not sure how to put an iso file back to a normal useable file onto a disk ( feels very stupid saying that but it never seems to work for me).
