My computer has been randomly freezing on me lately. I have no idea why, however i think i have narrowed it down to a few things...

    1. Tested my memory, everything passed, so i don't think it's that.
    2. Tried two or three nvidia drivers(7800GS) and it still froze, so i don't think it's that.
    3. I haven't added any new hardware in a while, so it's not that.
    4. I kept a temp reading up until it froze, and CPU froze at 50 degrees Celcius, so i dont think its a cooling issue

I don't know how to test my power supply or my mobo for issues. Does anyone know of any good tools for that?

Could it be a driver problem? or are you thinking its a hardware problem? It's RANDOM freezing, even typing this it may freeze. Is there a good diagnostic tool out there that can find all the "holes" in my system?

You might want to try Everest, that will give you your Voltages as well as Temps plus many other features. Random Freezes are a PITA have you tried "Event Viewer" to see if your posting some error codes when it freezes?? Everest Link http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181

so since this post(1 day or so) i've froze 3 times.

once playing a flash game online
once while working in flash(what i do for a living)
once while watching a video online.

so there seems to be a theme here...video/graphics related. I looked at the event viewer and there didn't seem to be any unusual activity that would cause this.

so basically i'm thinking my original thought. Graphics Card or Graphics card drivers. How would i completely remove everything relating to my graphics card so i can re-install it from scratch? AND how would i test my graphics card for errors?

    It's less than a year old(Geforce 7600GS AGP)...

    a few updates...

I've swapped RAM, froze. I've switched power cords, plugged into the wall, tried 2 power strips, so it's none of that.

I've boiled it down to 3-4 things, in this order too...

Power Source - Just got a sneaky feeling it's going out on me(3+ years old)
mobo - i've had one go before and did similar stuff
HDD - less than a year old, but anything is possible
Video Card - same thing, less than a year old

so today im going to try a new version of xp on a different drive and see what happens

Having a similar problem. My system freezes and drops out of games after about 10 minutes. I am running an Nvidia 8800 card with proper drivers. System never fail when viewing media or surfing...only on games. At this point, I think it is the fan, but I am not sure. Did not mean to hi-jack your thread, but I am frustrated.
