I just got my computer back from some people the end of October, I couldn't even run a defrag said there wasn't enough hard drive!!  Anyway, I cleared this baby out wiped out every thing I could and went from 11% free hard drive to 80%...Then everytime I would type my password and press enter@ log on, my system would lock up.
I would have to press and hold the power button and redo sometimes 10 or 11 times before I could get into windows and even then it still locked up a lot.
I found the list here that you have on services.msc, and I printed and went down it with a fine tooth comb. There was some trial and error but WOW what a difference!! Now I log on with no problems usually, and much faster, but it still locks up at random, tho not as often. This seems to happen more often while trying to upload a file, play a game @ yahoo or trying to use a cam.
Any thoughts on how to fix this??? I am so aggrivated, therefor any help would be so appreciated!

If you uninstalled alot of programs it may be that a file needed by Windows was deleted. I would try a system repair with your Win installation disk. Install disk and reboot then do a repair. If installation does not begin you will have to go into BIOS and change boot sequence to make comp boot from cd first

Unfortunately I don't have the disk. It's in my storage buried under who knows what, I was sure I loaned it to the people I loaned my computer to but they said no. I have an xp home edition disk but I can't use it can I??
When I deleted files I was pretty careful, the main thing hogging my drive was movies and music. I backed up everything i deleted and have reviewed the disks and I don't see anything. extra on there. I may just have to take it to someone who can fix it :(

Found no errors when I ran the memory test 1 1/2 hours....
and I like the Everest program u recommended too, profiled my system, much better than belarc, and I thought belarc was great!
I just know it's some stupid something...I may have did something when I installed the wireless adapter, for the internet......Could I have done something then/??? I'm really ready to just buy a new computer, but someting keeps telling me there is some little something I'm overlooking that just needs a lil tweeking. :( Any other ideas?/?? Pleeeeeze!

No more ideas???? I'm lost.....Have spent hours and hours and hours trying to figure this out. :(
I have noticed recently that it happens especially when trying to upload a file like pictures onto the internet. If i push the upload button, there is a 95%certainty my sys will lock up. :(

Was the wireless adapter a PCI card or a usb? If a PCI, you could try reseating the card and checking all your other connections that may have been disturbed if you were in the case. Make sure you ground yourself before adjusting anything. Also, you should check for updated drivers for the wireless card.
This may be out in left field but try it. HTH:)

It's a Belkin Wireless Network card, I guess that's what u meant. I will double check everything again and see, but I could just almost sit down and cry over this, it's quite aggrivating.

I can't use an xp home cd to repair xp pro can I ??? I think no, but just wanna double check

Performing a repair without knowing more about the cause is a HUGE mistake.
At any rate, its not an option for you anyway being that this is an OEM version of windows.

I think LBMEST is on to something. Wireless cards are notorious for hard locking windows, if their drivers are crap, or the hardware is defective.

In my opinion, I would remove teh card from the system and uninstall any software for it, and test the system for a day or so. If its stable, you have most certainly found your culprit.

You could also disable the card in device manager, but that may not be enough. Try disabling it first, then remove it if that doesnt help.

Thats what I would do, anyway.
