Okay, for the second time this month, my computer has become infested with viruses, and to be honest Im getting sick of it. I have tried all different combinations of protective programs, but everytime, they keep slipping through eventaully. Can someone recommend a combination of programs to keep me protected all around? Nevermind what I have because im scrapping it all, i want to know what you all would recommend. thanks in advance

If you have an up-to-date anti-virus program that is set to run automatically and daily, and you have anti-spyware progs that you keep up-to-date and run them regularly, then I would have to say that your own online habits are to blame. Running executable programs downloaded from untrustworthy sites; running email attachments or using email programs that allow attachments to execute without you specifically causing them to do so; believing pop-ups that tell you your "internet connection is not optimized; click here"; installing third-party search toolbars, installing peer-to-peer filesharing programs, etc, ad infinitum. It's hard to know what is legit and what is malicious-- the best policy is: if there's the slightest doubt, don't do it.

Look I understand that, and dont do any of those things, the one thing I do that does expose me however, is filesharing on dc++. My popup killer (stopzilla) takes care of popups, and Im using a spyware search & destroy, avast!, adaware and WinPatrol, but for some reason, they dont seem to be doing the job. I am smart about my habits, the problem is that with the volume of filesharing that I do, I keep getting exposed

I don't know much about dc++, and I can't give you a sure-fire answer. However, I know that there are .exe binders that can easily combine a legit executable with a virus, trojan or whatever. My suggestion is that you quit the filesharing, because it always poses an unknown threat. If you're looking to download music; go to www.singingfish.com. It's an excellent search-engine specializing in media files.

I would completely let go of filesharing programs. It's not good to share files with people you don't know, but it is good to get overpriced software and/or music for cheap! PS... try a new av program.

The apps I use and I not had any spys or virii

    Ad-Aware SE
    Spyware Blaster
A2 ( anti trojan and keylogger app )
McAfee VS7pro ( but Avast is a good free option )
BHO Deamon ( use on occasion to check for rogue browser helper objects )

and other than that care in what sites I goto, what I download and only open attachments if I know who they are off and virus scanned.

Another tip is not to use Explorer for web surfing...Try Firefox, you will have far less probs using this browser. I only use Explorer for Windows updates...

You did not mention that you have a firewall installed. I suggest that you download and install

    Zone Alarm http://www.majorgeeks.com/download388.html/

It is free. Keep it updated. It will annoy you at first with questions asking if it is safe to access the net, when you try to access the net using various programs. Answer yes or no according to your wishes at that time. It will eventually learn what programs you use, by ticking the "allow" box and questions will diminish over time. Bazza
