fresh install windows XP

I got some questions i need answered...if you guys would be so kind.

I installed windows Xp to the slave drive of my computer and am using the larger drive as a master for storage. Should i switch the two? should i boot the OS hard drive as a master and use the storage one as the slave?

is it possible to install windows Xp on both of my drives? I have a partition ready. If not i will probably install the UBUNTU distro of linux....just to have a backup OS in case this one crashes.


any other recommendations and issues i havent addressed are welcomed as well.

 

i would switch them around and have the master as the os and the storage hdd as the slave. as for your dual boot question, if you have two hdd and one of them is being used for just storage i wouldn't install an os to that one. keep in mind if you install linux on your storage hdd your files might get jacked up due to the change in formats. not absolutely positive about this, but i think someone had that problem.

 

I tried switching the two hard drives and I got a "NTLDR is missing" error, so i switched it back...anyway to get around that?


also...about installing a second operating system... does it make a diff if that storage drive has a separate 50 gig partition that i would install it to? I just wanted to try this linux thing...but not at the risk of losing my files...

 

you can try linux without having to install it by popping in a live cd. just pick one of their distro's, like Ubuntu, and they'll mail it to your house free of charge. As for the error you get, it's kinda hard to narrow down since NTLDR is missing can mean different things. I'll try to find the answer so we can solve your error problem.
