Friday the 13th?

I'm not supersticious but so far my Friday has been BAD. And it's only 10:30AM.

First of all, I lost my Oyster card at my friends house. (For those who don't know, an Oyster card is an RFID based ticket which you can use on the London Transport network). And it had £7.50 worth of credit on it. So I had to get paper tickets.

The Number 18 got stuck in some serious traffic at Wembly due to some road works they're doing. It was nearly 45 minute late... So, I managed to completely miss my Maths tutorial.

Then, after getting the bus through London, on my last connection which involved going ONE STOP down the line I got picked up by an inspector. Somewhere on the journey I got a single instead of a travelcard, so he had to fine me £20.

I think I'll just hide for the rest of the day.

I'm spending my day breaking mirrors while walking under ladders, all while chasing black cats; that superstition bidness doesn't get me....knock on wood.

On a related note, today's practice countdown has had the number thirteen cancelled. We will, however, repeat 14 twice for continuity.

Even if we're not supersticious, we are PC users. I've heard that on Friday 13 a special virus gets activated. I think it's called the "Michael Angelo". I thought of keeping my PC off today but I couldn't resist.

One student who NEVER talks, to anyone, actually spoke to me twice today!

Not sure you mean michelangelo...

This Stoned variant will activate on the birthday of Michelangelo Bounnaroti, who was born on March 6. 1475. It will then overwrite most of the hard disk. Structurally it is similar to the 'Stoned' virus, but it will infect non-360K diskettes correctly.

It is not an easy task task to recover from the activation of Michelangelo. The virus overwrites the first 17 sectors on heads 0-3 on the first 256 tracks of the disk the machine has been booted from.

There are several known variants of this virus - some of them do not activate at all. There are also at least two file viruses that occasionally 'drop' the Michelangelo virus to hard drives master boot sector, namely Prague.Pizza and HLLC.Enrico.A.

Michelangelo used to be very widespread in the early 1990s. Nowadays it is almost extinct.

HOWEVER there is a friday the 13th virus.

Friday 13th is a file infecting virus. It does not become memory resident. This virus only infects .COM files. Although it does not infect COMMAND.COM.

Each time an infected file is executed, the virus looks for two other .COM files on the C: drive and one on the A: drive, if found they are infected.

Additional Comments:
The original Friday 13th COM virus first appeared in South Africa in 1987. Unlike the Jerusalem (Friday the 13th) viruses, it is not memory resident, nor does it hook any interrupts. This virus only infects .COM files, but not COMMAND.COM. On each execution of an infected file, the virus looks for two other .COM files on the C: drive and one on the A: drive, if found they are infected. This virus is extremely fast, and the only indication of propagation occurring is the access light being on for the A: drive, if the current default drive is C:. The virus will only infect a .COM file once. The files, after infection, must be less than 64K in length. On every Friday the 13th, if the host program is executed, it is deleted.

I'm not superstitious one bit. In fact, when people do the "touch wood" bit on me, I usually give them a quizzical look and ask "How the heck do you think that inanimate piece of tree is going to help your predicament?". Kinda puts it in perspective. In Yorkshire, UK, there is an old old superstition that you should place 2 old pennies (pre-decimilization - many won't recall that ) under the table cloth at each mealtime so you don't receive bad luck. My nan used to do it. I guess people don't sit around tables to eat anymore, let alone have the old large pennies. Maybe that was the "bad luck" thing.....

Phone system at work crashed for half an hour friday afternoon, during our peak busy hours.

Definitely not a bad luck thing. They bought a crappy phone system because it was cheaper. It's crashed before.

Superstitions are fun to note and to laugh over.

Well, health-wise it was a bad day, but the best of it was kinda okay. Not the best of days, but I’ve had a lot worse.

It was a full moon over here, last week , and in Halloween month. Does that count for the spooky factor, LoL!

last year on friday the 13th i had the worst day ever so much happened to me it wasnt funny, but then this year i completely even forgot it was Friday the 13th until i saw an add on TV which was late at night and i had a great day, so therefore i believe it was a mind over matter thing,
the mind can be very powerful.

if your expecting something bad to happen it probably will, but if you dont think about it the bad thing will probably pass you without you even knowing.

sorry some of you had a bad day though. its all over now so cheer up

this is why i hate friday the 13th makes good racing but man i thought it would never end
when i was watching the last few laps of last nites race i was thinking yep i would not want to be out there right now. anyone else see that race? recap of the last laps.

var clickExpire = "-1"; CONCORD, N.C. -- Michael Waltrip finished second in the weirdest, most bizarre Busch Series event in the series' 25-year history, and he summed up the evening with the perfect sound byte.
"You'd better stay tuned," he quipped. "Dave Blaney will probably fail post-race inspection."
Blaney won the Dollar General 300 when Matt Kenseth spun off Turn 4 as the pair came side-by-side toward the checkered flag, and that was about the most normal thing that happened in more than 200 laps.
The only thing missing Friday night was a black cat, and absolutely no one would have been surprised to catch a glimpse of the Headless Horseman.
On Friday the 13th, there was plenty of voodoo to go around, as the evil reputation that the beautiful new asphalt at Lowe's Motor Speedway earned in May doesn't seem to have faded into the blue-gray October sky.
Oh, and by the way, Kevin Harvick clinched the Busch Series title with four races remaining.
But he didn't have the title until Edwards stopped spinning after a late-race crash, and the two wrecks that followed left Harvick with a ninth-place finish. Harvick needed to gain 32 points to clinch the title, but he was forced to pit early for a flat tire and fell back to 35th place.
"I was a little bit disappointed," Harvick said. "You can't control flat tires, but I like to control the things that we can control on pit road. We weren't very good in the pits [Friday night], but we did a good job preparing it. This thing was fast."
For some reason, nobody at Lowe's Motor Speedway seemed to know how to handle a simple gas-and-go pit stop by Mears with 18 laps remaining, and that's where the night took a turn toward the macabre.
NASCAR officials needed a six-minute red flag to sort out who the proper leader was after Mears ducked onto pit road to get a splash of fuel to finish the race and rejoined the race ahead of Edwards, who stayed out. But NASCAR reversed the order after the lengthy delay.
Still, the battle wasn't over.
Mears ran Edwards down and was pushing for the lead with two to go, got up into the marbles and spun, taking Edwards out in front of a packed front grandstand.
Mears drove directly to the garage area, and smack into a confrontation with one of Edwards's crewmen, which TV cameras caught. It was only a bit of yelling, but the normally easy-going Mears was absolutely livid.
He calmed down enough to talk to the camera and took blame for the crash that sidelined both himself and Edwards.
"We had a better car at the end," Mears said. "Carl was doing all he could to keep it on the bottom and not get in the lane. I got the outside and he started running up the track and it took off. I got loose and took him out."
As to the post-crash ugliness, Mears said, "one of Carl's guys had words for me but kept walking off. I don't know who it was, but what he said wasn't good. I was going to get him anyway, and I was talking to him while he was walking off."
Edwards saw the replay and shrugged.
"That's what happens sometimes," he said. "You go on the outside of the guy and it sucks the nose around. If that had been the last lap, it would have been the coolest finish ever."
Neither driver anticipated a problem with the other, as there was no contact until Mears got loose and spun.
As if there weren't enough going on, some serious doubt cropped up as to what Saturday night's Bank of America 500 might hold in store. Cup drivers had nearly all the major incidents in Friday's race, which bodes ill for Saturday's 334-lap event.
In a scene eerily reminiscent of last year's twin debacles on the 1.5-mile D-shaped track, every handful of laps it seemed there was a Cup regular in the fence, spinning down the frontstretch or it seelved in some other sort of mischief.
During the middle stages of the race, Auggie Vidovich and Jeff Burton collided in a violent crash just before a 58-lap burst that ended, predictably, with another crash -- this one involving Jamie McMurray. Otherwise, there was only one stretch of green-flag run longer than 10 laps.
Burton's No. 21 Chevrolet broke a carburetor and lost seven laps fixing it -- denying car owner Richard Childress the opportunity to clinch the car owner's title Friday night.
In the first 24 laps, Nextel Cup drivers Kasey Kahne, Greg Biffle (both on Lap 7) and Jimmie Johnson (Lap 11) had all found the wall, along with Busch regular Shane Huffman.
Kahne and Biffle were involved in a regular ol' racing crash, which ticked off the normally mild-mannered Kahne to no end.
"We had a car that was capable of running very well here tonight, but David Reutimann ended that for us," Kahne spat after climbing out of his car. "I can't believe he's going to be in Cup next year."

OVerall, Friday the 13th was touch and go for me. Totally forgot the whole thing until I got to work, but let's see. We ran out to Jaime's work to get blades sharpened, and when called, they guy is all how he is running behind and ends up getting there a 1/2 hour late. Then, I run next door to talk to the mgr of the Cricket place about a job, and end up in an interview that goes 5 minutes after the bus leaves. THis is not necessarily a bad thing, but the wait we had is the longest one on a Friday during the day for whatever reason. SO we went to Taco Hell for a quick holdover bite. My burrito was OK, but Jaime's was all messed up, and by the time we got the food and got back to the stop to munch, and noticed the problem, here comes the bus. THen we go to Jaime's Dr's appt. All is OK there, but by the time we are getting home, I missed the bus to work and end up having to ride the bike to work (OK, not that big a deal, but I do watch the forecast when I am riding and it was supposed to get COLD Fri nite) Then, at work, where we answer for most of the homecare groups in Buffalo, and the Buffalo ARC, we have the night from hell because of the call volume and manage to pull it off despite being short on people. THen, when I left... late, riding home, I almost got nailed by an idiot in a car who thought they could just blow through the red light at the intersection I was crossing (with the green btw). THankfully, I got home without further incident, and made it through the last 10 minutes of the day (I left work around 1130 and got home around 10 of midnight)

But am still here and kicking
