friday the 13th

I was on vacation last week. Took the amtrak out to whitefish montana from minneapolis to go snowboarding. i never been on a train and it was a nice experience until we tried to return home. the train was 4 hours late to the train station in whitefish. whatever, stuff happens right? we were supposed to leave whitefish at 7:45AM, but ended up leaving at around 11:30.
About 3 hours into our departure, the engine died so we had to replace it. Did they replace it with an amtrak engine? nope. freight engine. traveled no faster than a car on the highway. way to go america.
while we were sleeping 8 or 5 hours later, we had to make another stop. law requires conductors to work no longer than 12 hours at a time. we stopped the train in the middle of nowhere, about an hour away from an actual stop to replace the conductor with another guy. it took close to 3 hours for the replacement. why they did not have this replacement ready at the previous stop, i'll never know.
a few hours later even, the train hit a car on the tracks. go figure. another 5 hour delay. all in all, we were 12 hours late getting back in the city. 35 hour train rides are not very enjoyable.

anyone else have some friday the 13th stories??

 

That's awful, if you file a complaint with Amtrak they'll give you a free trip. Up for another 35 hours?
No, that has always been an uneventful day for me also, (knock wood)

 

we're actually getting our money back for the return trip. i'm not going to be taking the train again any time soon.

 

Friday 13th was my moms birthday

 

Oh, ahah I thought this was a thread about the movie. I'm traveling by train on Sunday, I really hope that doesn't happen.

 

I love the train, the bad experience we had was they over booked and we sat in the observation a good deal of the way, with our luggage. Got a free trip because of that.

 

That was a real rotten train experience Steve. Nah, I don't believe in the number 13.

When we moved here from overseas, I was flabbergasted that the 13th floor was missing in apartment buildings and also about Friday the 13th.

Nope. 10, 11, 12, 14, 15 etc.

Sounds like that was the train trip from Hell, Steve, the return trip, anyway.

When I first came here, I wondered why the buses had 12 and 12A - no 13. Guess that's why. Can't say I've had any worse luck on the 13th than any other day. Guess if you believe bad luck enough, you might psych yourself into it happening.

 

No Steve, not in any highrise building, so that includes office buildings as well.

 

Well, as I live and breathe. I didn't know that either. I didn't realise people took the no. 13 so seriously. I know up until 1994 or 95, in the English football league, there was no no. 13, it was 12, 14. I'm sure the no. 13 is used now, though. Triskaidekaphobia is an artificial fear, there's no logic behind it.

 

It's there, they call it 14 but not kidding anyone we know it's there rolleyes
