    MOBO: MSI G31M-F ms-7528 ver 1
    PSU GPS-350EB 101 A - verified all voltage levels

Memory 1Gb Goodram DDR2 800, good for 100% checked in other box, but tried 1Gb Kingston DDR2 800 stick as well.

below CPU models supported by the mobo specs

    1) CPU Pentium D 820 - No memory - 15s beep, 30s pause, repeats. With 1gb stick of memory - silence
    2) CPU E2140 - No memory 3 beeps, with memory - silence
    3) CPU E7210 - same as case 1)

    Fried mobo or CPU ?

    cheers

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Greetings, boo9, and welcome to MajorGeeks.

From the symptoms you have listed I'd have to lean towards the motherboard being the problem. Make a close visual inspection of the board: any obvious scorch marks, burn tracks, bulging/discolored/leaking capacitors? Also (if you haven't already) try testing with the board pulled out of the case just on the off chance that there's a short to case going on.

The board is on the desk.
    There is no visible damage.

    My typo - I tested with E7200 no E7210.
