Fried RAM or Something Else?

    I have a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DQ6 motherboard

My computer hasn't had any problems until now.

I connected an additional hdd but when I booted up, it wasn't recognized by My Computer or Disk Management. I turned the pc off, unplugged the power, disconnected the data cables and pressed Reset for 30 seconds and then CMOS for 30 seconds. I re-connected the power and cables but when I tried to restart, it cycles on and off every 5 to 10 seconds.

The MD2 led on the motherboard is yellow, which means "Excessive Overvoltage - Memory Overvoltage Status". I removed the RAM, hdd cables and power, and pressed Reset for 30 seconds and then CMOS for 30 seconds, and connected everything again but the led light is still lit.

    Did my RAM get fried?

P.S. I also tried pressing CLR CMOS when booting up but it didn't fix the problem.

    Possibly

Do you have another stick of ram to try?

What happens when you take the ram out and try and boot it?

If you haven't done this I would try it and see if it still has the same message.

I gave up since it wasn't an easy hardware problem to fix and it wasn't a software problem. The tech said that it might be that the PSU might be sending overvoltages but he hasn't checked it out yet. He won't get to it until tomorrow but I'll post what he found and fixed tomorrow.

    Thanks for your help . . . it's much appreciated :)

It could be a PSU problem to. Sounds possible to me as well.

Well, it's worse than I thought. The mobo died/somehow got fried. The tech tested the psu, cpu, RAM, etc, and they were ok. He disconnected everything and then connected just the minimum but it won't post. I believe the mobo is still under warranty so I'm going to look into getting an RMA. It'll mean about 10 days without a puter though. :cry
