Friend recieves BSOD

So, as the title states, a friend of mine has been in trouble lately. Sailor's advertising cool) leads to a MG popularity growth at school so he turned to me and the Geeks. :major :major
When he turns the PC on he gets a Blue Screen Of Death as soon as he is through the POST. In the beginning the computer would load XP after some restarts. I don't know if this happens now.

Unmountable boot volume.

Most likely cause: Corrupt fileystem.

Most likely fix: chkdsk /r from recovery console (gotta boot from the XP CD).

 

can you be a little more specific Adrynalyne? confused By more specific I mean step by step. I never needed to use the recovery console so I've no idea how it's done.

The command is pretty easy once in.

chkdsk /r

make sure its analyzing the main drive (C, usually).
