I'm going to ask my go-to-gal for security. She is a MSMVP for security so I'll see what she thinks.
Looking at infected PCs, I'm sure she will get a chance to try it out. Once I hear from her, I'll also mention what she thinks.

Hey guys, I gave it a look and have a question. Why should they need my password to my email address? Don't mind giving my email address, but not my password. Can't figure that one out. I was going for the free version, but didn't want to give my password, so I passed on it.

It is Beta and only available from Microsoft Connect. I was surprised to see it available for public access since it is part of the Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset (DaRT) for Enterprise customers. It uses the same definitions as MSE and Microsoft Forefront. Based on the wording on the Connect site, I wonder if it is was placed on Connect for the convenience of MS Support Techs.
The Microsoft Safety Scanner would work just as well as a stand alone scanner.

I know nothing about Microsoft Connect so maybe the password thing has something to do with that.
Based on what she said, it sounds like it is for a very limited audience.
