A really handy bunch, today, bazza.
Some extremely useful, thanks.
Any newbys should find all this FREEWARE very handy- I have added all exept infranview to my collection - you do all the work for us, and we sit back and benifit.
I keep telling everyone I am so lazy to look up from time to time, unless I really need something.
Majorgeeks is the place to get the best choice, and no worries about catching something on our computers.:grouphug

Thanks baklogic :major , for the feedback. It is difficult to select 3-4 programs each day that MG readers might be interested in. I usually go by the choice of what I would be interested in, and hope it appeals to the readers.

I try and keep the selections to Freeware but if there is a Shareware ($$$$) program that takes my fancy I include that as well.

Feedback is rare which is why I really appreciate any, good or bad, and any suggestions to improve this column are also welcome. Bazza

 

Well, I tried that kids program Tuxpaint, and it will certainly keep the youngsters of around 3 years and up amused - very simple, nice little brush additions, shapes etc:
I have to say, anyone with pre-school children - its a must, brilliant little FREEWARE program.

Trace the route your Broadband takes.
Start-->Run-->cmd<enter> (or maybe command<enter>
Type in tracert and www.majorgeeks.com (or your choice) and <enter>
And watch the path taken.

Mine took 16 hops from Cairns to MajorGeeks and 253ms ping time.
Report back how few yours takes, from your PC to MG, so I can be envious.

Tip #5
You can change your CMD prompt from displaying a black screen.
Start--->Run---->cmd,<enter> and a black box usually appears.
To fix this, click on the icon in the top left corner.
Click on Properties. You can alter the Screen Background color.
Then you can click on Screen Text.
I've set my Screen Background color to White,
and my Screen Text. to Black.
Try it, you might like it instead of a Black box.
It's a little easier on black (background) printer ink as well.

If you were wanting to maybe do another thread, How about going through the main categories and picking some of the more popular or less known apps in them.
Like do Multimedia one day, Browsers the next, etc.?

 

Thanks, musksnipe, for the flattering remarks. :-D I've been thinking for some time to add some of my favourites / essential programs (IMO) to this column. I think I'll add them as "Tips" as it will be easier that way than trying to formalise them under Browsers, Anti-virus, etc.

I'll start over the next few days with some of my favourites, like SlickRun, XP FreeRam XP Pro, etc.

In almost any application or program, press Ctrl+F and a search box will pop up. Try it. Very convienient, IMO.
