Process Explorer is a good app, especially for those of us with older PC's that don't multi-task well. It gives a lot of useful info about what is running at any given time. It also can be set to replace the Windows Task Manager. (Not permanent) With it you can set the priority of some of those background apps that tend to suck up CPU usage. That way the ones you are actually trying using have a faster response.

Good to see you are still keeping us up to date, Bazza.

I use Process Explorer, in conjunction with SmartClose ( http://www.majorgeeks.com/SmartClose_d5164.html to show before and after processes running, after I use SmartClose.

The difference usually indicates processes you don't need to run your PC normally (not connected to the web, so no firewall, no A-V, etc.)
Usually reduces my running processes from around 70 to around 25-30.

@COMPUABLE@ SmartClose started working properly, as it used to, a while ago. Maybe a MS update, at some time, solved our old problem.

It makes me wonder why "they" bother. If "they" can't finish off a release properly, why bother to release it? It gives them wriggle-room if it crashes. I guess all updates are really BETA releases, as "they" use us as guinea pigs to sort out their programs for them. Enough of a rant for today.

Next I am not sure what you mean. I use Trillian instead of Yahoo Messenger. It reads Yahoo mails (as well as others) and I have not used Yahoo Messenger in years.

This is a great program, Bazza. Catches things that my other malware apps don't. The description says "Shareware" but the Freeware version comes with the download. It only asks if you want to upgrade to the paid-for version. There is not a time use limit on the app or a wait for an internet connection to the the author's site when asking about the upgrade. Just click "continue using the Free Version" and your on your way. It asks you to update the definitions when you start it, if the period has been more then 24 hours since the last use.

 

Yep, love it, musky. It definitely catches stuff the others miss. It has for me.

hey guys thinking o installing remove it pro , just wondering is it an on-demand scanner or an active scanner , i.e will it cause any problems with my a/v or a-squared etc

Great program, ferg46. I run it on demand. I also run A² (A Squared) on demand also.

I run them both when I have logged off the Net.

These 2 are part of my (usually) daily housekeeping programs. So I don't run them when my AV, Firewall, etc., are live. Bazza

gonna download when i get home , i always run my scans when my browsers are closed but....

is it neccesary to exit my a/v and firewall when i scan with remove it or a-squared

I close as much as possible when I do my daily PC housekeeping, but that is just my chosen method of operating. Paranoid, some people say. :major

I can't see the harm in running them with your Firewall and AV still loaded as they are only searching your files for baddies. Bazza
