I have several computers with front usb and sound ports that don't work (the rear ones work). One I built myself and I know I connected all 4 usb (2 front 2 rear) correctly to the motherboard and the rear ones work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think your best resource in this case would be your motherboards manual. Sometimes there are jumpers you have to set to enable the front USB and sound, even when they are connected correctly.
If that doesn't work for you, post back specifying which cases you have with which motherboards. Otherwise, we're just shooting in the dark.

Hope you don't mind if I hijack this thread, slightly. I have an older desktop that has USB on the motherboard with the USB ports at the rear of the case. Is there anything available that will allow me to fit USB ports to the front of the case? Maybe run cables out from the rear ports, to inputs that are set in a 3.5" or 5.25" blanking panel? I'd like to get the USB ports up front, if possible. Bazza

This looks interesting if you have a couple of extra pci slots.

I'll give the manual another look. In the meantime, do you have any ideas about the sound port?

I must reiterate my original advice. My own mobo has a jumper that enables both the front USB AND sound. Be sure your mobo isn't the same way. It may not neccessarily be a jumper...it could be a DIP switch. Your motherboard's manual should say. If not, I would contact the manufacturer, because they're doing a pretty shoddy job.

Also, are you certain that the connectors are oriented correctly? I've always found that to be troublesome. If you've got them on the wrong pins, or even backwards on the correct pins, you'll have problems.

And again, if you don't post what types of case and motherboards you are using, we will only ever have a general understanding of your problem. Oftentimes, the solution lies in the details.

My mobo is an Abit NF7-S v.2. I will need to post the case info tonight. The mobo manual doesn't mention any switches or jumpers. I'm 99% sure I installed the connectors with the correct orientation, and a little less sure that they're on the right pins. The labels on the connectors are a little confusing.
