Frozen Computer

This is probably a stupid ?, but it really happened. Someone I know put a computer in the freezer for 4hrs. Now it won't boot-up. I told him it was ruined. He still wants to know if it can be fixed? By the way, he won't say why he did this. Any feedback appreciated. Thanks, acecranker69

 

You would probably have to wait for the hard drive to thaw out before you could turn it on and also taking off the case and thawing it out in an air-conditioned room might be helpful to avoid as much condensation forming as possible. I would think that condensation forming on the frozen parts when it thawed would be a potential problem.

If it's completely thawed out and won't start up I would guess that replacing the hard drive would be the first option, if that didn't work you might be right and it is now a parts computer. Interested to see what others have to say.

 

Yup, and it's only prescribed for a very small subset of 'dead' drives where the signs and symptoms rule out conventional recovery and where the costs of professional clean room recovery techniques are prohibitive, and should only be used as the final attempt; smashing and dumping the drive is the final step in the sequence.
