The symptoms : Computer freezes completely, image on screen frozen, if a sound or song was playing it loops what sounds like the last half a seccond or so that was being procesed when the machine stops.

Hapens at random, somtime it goes a month without "freezing" and somtimes it does this after less than a minute of being logged into windows. All drivers for all hardware are up to date as typing this post , many of them rolled back and tryd out finding machine still crashes , and then re updated to the newest again.

As per running search on this and many other forums to frind answers B4 posting a "halp me plox" i have run memtest, it was running over night while i slept ,and all day the next day while i was at work. It found no errors. I have tried removing the ram and running just 1 stick / 2 new sticks , each 1 at a time and in pair / 2 sticks from my other machine which has no troubles both together and individualy. ALL resulted in same random freezes
I have formated the harddrive(s) and installed all drivers freshly ( NOT from a restore disk, all new installs )
trid swaping out for different video cards from other machines / bought a new vid card.
pulling my hair out for months now

so here is my system: nothing has been overclocked, not even tried.

    GPU - Radeon X1650 Pro 512meg ( AGP )
RAM - Ballistex 800mhz DDR2 ( TWO sticks ONE gig each)
    CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 ( 2.3 Ghz / 256 bus X9 multiplier )
    Motherboard - Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA
onboard everything except Video is being used

and here is my HJT log

And i havent locked up in any other programs since i noticed this , will test it as soon as it happens.

    Hey guy,

    Not sure but..
Try having a look in your device manager for irq conflicts, try starting with irq 5 that gets hammered a bit. Things like audio, graphics, tv tuner cards, other expansion audio cards, etc can map through this one and cause all sorts of "fun".

Gluck:wave lettuce know if you sort the issue.

follwing your advice imediatly. (crossing fningers)

Edit: ok i went from the top of the list to the bottom of the list of EVERYTHING in there, writing down the IRQs . i did not find any conflicts where 2 things wanted to use the same IRQ . I did not find an IRQ linked to the audio card, but the audio is onboard. there was IRQs listed under the motherboard resorces , and i asume in there somewhere one ment the onboard audio. but none of hem conflicted with anything.

on a side note, nothing at all was on IRQ 5 :p

Thx for the idea though. much apreciated.

well i havent put the system under any load other than running the monitor and this web browser. but already the temps look off. i think they are to high but im a noob . do they look high to you ?

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
    Core 0 - 43c / 109f
    Core 1 - 44c / 111f
    Core 2 - 40s / 103f
    Core 3 - 40c / 103f

    Radeon X1650 Series
    GPU - 54c / 129f

prime 95 just finished running for an hour. Temps climbed and then remained at

    core 0 - 77c / 170f
    core 1 - 77c / 170f
    core 2 - 75c / 166f
    core 3 - 75c / 166f

    GPU - 60c / 139f

77c sounds to hot me . but it remained at that temp for about 48 minutes without freezing
i shall now procied to run a PGU stress test instead of CPU stress test.

  10. Pyris

    Pyris Private E-2

ok , so the GPU test peaked out at 90c / 193f . and maintained 89c for over an hour during stress test that managed to bring it to its knees at 6 fps

    but still didnt crash. :-/

HDD has been a cool 34c / 93f this whole time without even 1 degre change.

    Hey Guy,

Have you had a look to see what the default temp is for your cpu? it will be listed somewhere on the makers website.

Had a look at the size of your virtual memeory or paging file?

    Cleaned out temp folders?

Had a look at the fragmentation on your drive

After this have a look at your Hdd if its three to five years old it could be getting tired... depending on usage.

Also are there a few partitions on your Hard drive, the more partitions on one Hard drive typically slow down a single Drives performance, if you have a C: and two or three other partitions on the same Hard drive, and these get a bit cluttered and especialy fragmented, then the over-all units performance will suffer.

Just a few other ideas to throw in the mix..

    Later:wave

All the help has been super awsome. Thankyou.

the only thing i can think now is that it must be the HD is just getting old, cuz evetyhing else seems fine. So ill just hafto live with iti guess.

Thx again for all the help and ideas.

90 is pretty high for the gpu, i know it's a stress test, but if you play a game at that temp, you will have freezing and even a crash or 2. have u run the temp monitor while playing a game?

  14. Pyris

    Pyris Private E-2

i have tried to . but every time it crashes , i cant go look at the temps. and if it does not freeze , it doesnt show any temp i higher than 90
