Hey everybody - I'm having trouble working out the settings for my CPU/Mobo... especially the FSB. I have an Athlon XP 2200+ (Thoroughbred) sitting in a GA7N400Pro2. Chip can support 266FSB. Board can support 400FSB. BIOS is telling me I'm at 133.

I've got 2x512MB matched pair of ADATA DDR400 Memory in dual channel, and I've noticed absolutely no performance increase from the 512MB DDR333 I used to have.

    I scored 1786 3DMarks in their latest test. It said there's an avg of 2500 3DMarks for a 1GHz Processor and 5000 3DMarks for a 2GHz. Mine's a 1.8GHz, so what's going on?

How do I find out what my boards multiplier is set to? - I'm not using the DIP switches and there's no mention of it in my BIOS.

    Any help much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Alex

I recommend SANDRA. The app is available at www.sisoftware.net. It'll tell you just about everything you need to know.

The motherboard front side bus is 133 but All athlon processors use the double pump method 133x2=266 . 3dmark 03 measures more than just the processor it measures video card, memory etc. So the other scores your loking at may have different configurations. Your processor is running at it's rated speed.

Also as far as memory you have seen no increase because the memory will usually run with the bus of the processor which yours is running at 266mhz so even though you bought ddr400 rated at 400mhz it is only running at 266mhz along with your processor. A 3200 Athlon processor at 400mhz will show on the motherboard at a 200fsb but do to the double pump method it is running at 400mhz as so with ddr400 memory.

    Hey All,

    My setup:

    Athlon XP 2200+ (1.8GHz)
    GA-7N400 Pro 2
    2x 512MB ADATA DDR400 in Dual Channel
    Geforce FX5700 (256MB DDR)
    48x40x12 CDRW
    16x DVDRW
    Gigabit 10/100 Ethernet Card
Onboard Realtek 8139 10/100 Ethernet port
    80GB Maxtor
    350w PSU

When I say there was no performance increase I was more referring to the fact I had jumped from 512MB Single channel to 1024MB Dual channel. Doubling my memory made no difference, and this Dual Channel idea didnt do a thing either.

I can understand my chip doubling the FSB, but why is it still showing up in benchmarking tests as being 133MHz? If it's doubling my base FSB then shouldnt it have a resulting FSB of 266, and hence this should show up in the tests?

BIOS is telling me my RAM is running at 400MHz.

I've got a 2MB net connection but after 10GB my ISP throws me back to 64k and this usually happens after 2-3 days so downloading Sandra is a bitch. Even getting the damn site to load up is taking forever.

    Thanks for your help guys!!

Hey thanks Mada_Milty - I dl Sandra and did a report, which tells me:

    Chipset 1
Model Nvidia Corp nForce2 AGP Controller
Front Side Bus Speed 2x 133MHz (266MHz data rate)
    Total Memory 1GB DDR-SDRAM
Memory Bus Speed 2x 199MHz (398MHz data rate)

so I guess I AM running at 266MHz...

I'm just surprised that all this hi-tech hardware is giving me such low performance. There's gotta be a bottleneck somewhere.

    Thanks everybody for your help!
