Hello everyone. I have a dell vostro 1500 running windows XP Pro. I just upgraded my RAM from 2 GB to 4GB. However, when I check my system properties, it says I have 3.5 GB of RAM. Also when I run cccleaner it says I only have 3.5 GB of RAM. Does anyone know how to correct this? Also would it be affecting my performance? I am not sure that it seems like I have doubled the RAM.

    Thanks,

    Keyser

XP will only register 3.5GB. if you search these forums you'll find the technical explaination.

That laptop has a integrated video card so It will take some ram form your regular ram for the video ram.

    True also

Even without integrated video you only get 3.5GB. doesn't matter.
I have a desktop with 4GB RAM and a PCIe videocard... still only has 3.5GB.

so does it affect my performance? I don't think I have an integrated card. I think I upgraded to a separate one.

With XP Pro, any RAM over 1-1.5 GB is just gravy.
My machine with XP Pro has 1GB and is as fast as the company machine with Vista Home Premium and 4GB.

Actually 1 GB is enough for XP.But ur computer performance depends on how many applications u have and how much u multitask it etc.. .
So learn to understand what u want and dont multitask to much the job will be done slower only.
