Funky Internet

I am on a laptop that connects via Linksys router to our desktop/cable modem. Recently, a house guest wanted to get on, so I disabled the password on the Linksys site (since it wouldn't accept the password for some reason). But then I couldn't get a connection to my router. So I password-secured my router again and figured out how to make it work on his computer. All seemed fine and dandy until I realized I cannot connect to the internet unless I restart my computer. The weird thing is that I'm connected to the router (excellent signal) and my email works....and so does my network abilities. But when I open Mozilla Firefox (or IE) it always gives me the message "cannot display page." That happens when I click on a favorite or type in the address. When I restart my computer and click on a favorite, I still get the "cannot display page" sign - BUT when I type in the address, the page opens. And THEN I can click on my favorites and they work. What's going on here? I've already gone to my Linksys site and changed my connection name and channel, as well as reboot the router and cable modem. Any other suggestions?

    Thanks so much, Stephanie

    Stephanie,
Try (if it's not already) and disable the powering down of the network card. You can ge to this via device manager.select network card and view the properties of it. You'll see a power management tab.

Also, try updating the drivers to the network card should any new ones be available.

    kodo,
you made me remember that i had taken my wireless card out of my computer for travelling and didn't properly remove it. the disabling down was already disabled, but i removed my card properly and inserted it again and it seems to have done the trick. i'll let you know. thanks for the advice, as always!
