My system is 7 year old HP Pavilion. Has GeForce FX 5200 card. The highest resoluyion I can get is 1024x768. Driver shows as most recent. Is there any way of getting higher with this card? Don't really want to buy new card.

Changing the "color depth" from 32-bit to 24-bit will possibly allow a greater xy resolution. However, that option may not exist with your card/driver. Sometimes the only alternate color-depth settings are 16 and 8-bit which may, or may not be satisfactory.

A standalone card with 128 meg on board ram will yield 2048x1536, without a problem. However, if you have a shared ram video of 64 meg on your HP machine, you either need to cut the resolution or reduce the color-depth.

hello Toke. Thanks for the lead. I had not checked there because I had read that there were no updates for that card due to age.(outdated, I guess). Have just downloaded and installed. Requires reboot, so will wait to find out if it works.

Hello again Toke. Just rebooted to complete installation on card. Sorry to say 1024x768 is still as high as I can get. Suppose I will have to live with it(it has done OK so far). Thanks for trying to you and all other responders.

The 1024x768 limit seems quite unusal for an FX5200. Is your "card" an add-on card in an AGP slot, or it is onboard/integrated video? If it's onboard, you may be able to increase video memory by accessing your BIOS settings and making a change there.

Run dxdiag and see how much video memory it reports.

hello usafveteran. ran dxdiag. Shows approx.total memory 128MB. Card is plugin that was in machine when purchased(used). Have heard of FX5200 with much higher resolutions.

hello GoranP. Somebody has suggested that it may be the monitors fault because it may not support any higher. It is a Samsung 150s that was made in 2002.Went to Samsung website but could not find tech specs. Downloaded user manual, but in .pdf ,unreadable on my machine.

hello again Goran.P . Just installed Adobe reader to access .pdf file. Did not like what I read. It turns out that 1024x768 is max on this monitor.:cry. Will just have to make do until I can get a better one.:(
