Game and power supply

I just bought PNY VCG86512GXPB-OC GeForce 8600GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card for my deskptop. I only have the minimum 300W to run this video card. I have not installed it yet. I will be playing World in Conflict but don't know if I should upgrade the power supply. I am just asking since I will take my desktop to store for someone to install the video card and possibly power supply (if it is required).

So, should I just wait and try the game with the new video card under minimum power supply? If I need to upgrade what would be a good amount of power supply, woould it be anything from 400-450W?

 

You are going to want to upgrade the PSU. Go for something around 500W. Too many people neglect the power supply but it is a very important part of your computer. Get a good one, not the cheapest one.

 

Everything that Jamiko says is good advice... also, try to get a PSU with at least 2 12v rails with at least 22A per rail. It will cost a bit more, but like he said above, PSU's are important. Think about it... everything in the PC uses electricity, and it ALL has to come in thru the power supply. So the better the power supply, the stronger and cleaner and more stable the electricity will be.

 

I'd say 18 or 20 amps will be fine. I usually shoot for 20.

 

whats the brand u are using right now? If its a seasonic it can hold but u shud get a new one for future upgrades, a 550w from corsair is very good
