Game controller

I have just purchased a power wave pc controller, after installing the drivers should it work on any game mainly quake 3. If so what else should I do because it will not work on any game. I have looked in options to see if there is an option for the game controller but none there.

 

First Person Shooters like Quake 3 are better served using a mouse and keyboard config. No one's crazy enough to use a controller; thus, I highly doubt iD even made it possible in Quake 3. Do you have any racing games you could test it out on?
