Game crashing due to unstable electrical flow to computer?

Hi... I am at my wits end with this problem.

I have a great computer that I made myself, and it worked flawlessly with my old ti 4400 gfx card, but whenever i try to use my new 9800 pro card it will crash games that are somewhat graphic intensive such as guildwars and the halflife2 and cs:S. I can play hl1 games fine without a problem, and with my old card i could play all the games fine.

The reason I don't just assume its my card is because I took it to a computer repair shop, and to my astonishment they played all the games that crashed for me WITHOUT FAIL EVERY SINGLE TIME for the last 6 months.. flawlessly without ONE crash for like 2 hours.

The only differences were that the room was air conditioned while mine is a little warmer, and that i live in an old fraternity house with REALLY bad wiring, and I am sure the outlet that my computer is plugged into isn't giving off a stable current. I doubt the difference in temp is the problem because even during the winter when my room was cold it was still not working. Could these problems be caused by a varying current running to the computer? It's weird because in BIOS when i look at my power supply (which is custom and good) it shows its voltage as stable, but at this point I can't possibly imagine what else could be the difference between my house and the computer repair shop.

So can unstable currents from an outlet cause gfx card crashes ONLY when used at least somewhat strenuously? (IE: not in halflife 1 since I can play that without a problem?)

    Thanks.

current flow coming out of the socket can only be good or bad but we are talking brownouts, surges or blackouts since ac voltage is converted through the power supply it is more likely more than one component would crash rather than one that uses little to no voltage such as cards which use system board power. The outcome would be most likely reboots or lock ups, if you have specifics of the board and card it may helpto determine the problem faster.

i didnt include my specs becasue all i was asking was wether unstable voltage could cause that problem or not. It isnt a hardware problem. The computer worked fine for like 2 hours at the repair shop while I cant even start up a game at home... if it was a hardware problem then it wouldnt have worked there either. Like i said, the ONLY possible differences from my situation here at home right now, and my situation at the repair shop, were the temperature and the fact that my house has shoddy copper wiring without the proper lubricant used to connect it to modern outlets. I have heard the sockets crackling before, and I am sure its not a stable current, so the question was wehter that could cause my gfx card to reset due to not enough power or something, when being used strenuously?

I think the draw from the gfx card (since power consumption increases when in intense 3d activities) causes the reboots/crashes etc..

might consider getting a UPS w/ voltage regulation .. if you know the guys at the repair shop you might persuade them to let you borrow one for a day or two to try it out
