Game help please

Ok so i have updated my Os to win7 now my wifes 2 fave games willnot run they are C&C red alert2 and Diablo 2 they ran fine on my old os but not on the new any ideas ? ive tried compat mode and it still gives the same errors

I'm assuming you have reinstalled them.
Try right clicking the shortcut, goto properties and click on the "Compatibility Mode" tab and you will see a drop down bar, try running in compatibility with XP.

 

In addition to compatibility mode, try running it "as Administrator".

Install and update DirectX 9, 7 comes with 10 and 11 only and older games can't always use them. You can get the installer for DirectX 9 here.

 

Wish it were that simple tried both of those as well as other 98 and ME ( I thinK )

Did you install the games as Administrator and in compatibility mode as well? They might need full admin rights to be able to get all registry entries and system files right if you don't give them full admin rights.

 

hmmm didnt do that but honestly im not sure how lol :-D

 

Put in the CD, and cancel out of autoplay. Then go through File Explorer (Windows Key + E) and navigate to the CD, and right-click on the setup.exe file. If it's not called setup.exe, look for an install.exe or some similar name. After right-clicking, go to the compatibility tab and select to run as Administrator and in compatibility mode of choice, then double-click the file to start the install.

I had the same problem as you with C&C.
I solved it with updating to the lastest version by http://www.commandandconquer.com
Only its a little bit hard to find the update.

Hi matey,

I am sure Diablo 2 will work on a Win7 system, I have got it working on my 64bit version. I have had it working for ages and although it has been a while I just checked what compatibility I have had it in and it seems the only box selected is "Disable desktop composition"
I have not set it to run in any form of previous OS so give it a try!
