ok Im havin problem with some fairly new games.(I.E. 'F.E.A.R' and 'Condemned:Criminal Origins'.)Well my system can play these games easily(Im guessing.)Thing is when I go to click the game's icon it gives me a black screen as if its going to load the game and then it just goes back to my desktop and acts as if I had never tried starting the game.Help would be appreciated alot cause Im a Hardcore Gamer and we all know what happens to hardcore gamers who dont get their fix.Thats right we READ or GO OUTSIDE!!!So plz help me get my fix.thnx:mad:

What you need to do mate is disable any forced resolution\refresh rate software your running "reforce ect." the latest graphics engines need to be in full control of the resolution\refresh rate, this happens with most EA games,le me know:)

Aslo if O/Cing the GFX card or CPU, default them and test the game to see if its starts ok?

Another that has just sprang to mind is a problem I have with battlfield 2,the game randomly wont spin up the CDROM and recognize the disk,BF2 exe is running in taskmanager but I get just desktop, the way I work round it when it happens is to end BF2exe,open the cdrom, close it let the game auto load and spin up the disk once its whistling I close the autorun menu and double click the BF2 exe on the desktop,it dosnt seem to work when clicking play game in the autorun menu:confused:

I still havnt found a fix to this and many other people are having the same problem with this game only,I have a practically brand new liteon DVD burner

If you havnt ran a refresh rate lock like reforce you wont need to adjust anything, what reforce does is lock the refresh rates at thier maximum for your monitor to avoid the refresh rate dropping to 60hz "known as the 60hz bug,the screen looks like its flickering"

If you have recently installed an nvidia driver your refresh rate will already be controlled by the game engine which is what you want

Has Major attitude passed on some advice, have you followed it,has anything changed?

Does the disk spin up when you double click the icon,is the game process in taskmanager not using the cpu?have you tried playing by inserting the disk and clicking play?Go to the game start options to see if you can start the game in safe mode,if so set the game resolution and refrsh rate to the same as your desktop,BTW put it back to 60hz to save confusion

Not sure, if this will help, but do a search within the directory that FEAR is installed at. As in search for a .log file, then post it here.

Sent you back a pm, but here it is although some might be covered above:

Not likely, did you check their website? Black screen tends to be a common issue in games with a fix. I have dealt with it a few times over the years and usually it is a game that really is cutting edge for its time, like FEAR, as we all know it is a cpu and vide pig. Are you sure you got motherboard drivers as well? They are often overlooked. Also, latest DirectX, i assume the game checked that for you? Monitor drivers and refresh rates can be a cause. All this assuming you can run the game, which I am sure you know about. I forgot, i think you said the game was F.E.A.

For Nvidia they just say update drivers, if you have an ATI card, they have a fix:

    Black screen on their forums:

    Try:

disable intro movies by the check box in the config utility- start menu-> sierra-> fear-> config.

Also, within the config, try setting everything to minimum.

128 is weak for todays newest games. Period. 256 is better. Im running dual 512 meg video cards for 1 gig of video ram alone. My money says upgrade video card and it runs.
