Hi all! Just a quick request for anyone's experience with the Gamecube? My son has a fair-grade gaming computer and loves to play online RPG's, like Warcraft & Runescape. He also has a PS2 & X-Box. For his birthday this month, he is asking for a Gamecube, a memory card, & a few games to go with it. Anyone here have experience with a Gamecube they would like to pass on -- good or bad, tips or tricks? I've heard they are very reasonable as far as price goes. Also, for Christmas this year, we would like to upgrade his PC (XPHome) for higher-grade gaming. His PC is his first & best love (just turning 13, so not much into girls yet... ;) LOL!) Thanks to all for any tips! Shannon

Gcube itself is on its last brink, slow sales and slacking games are slowly sinking the system. Plus were on the edge of a new system generation, the xbx360 the PS3 and the revolution are all slated to come out soon.

You should probably hold off on getting Gamecube...since next year a new generation of gaming systems is coming out as omegamerc said.. You could get Nintendo Revolution which will be the future of gamecube but you would have too wait a year or so...

Agree with below. The xbox 360 is already out but its a bit pricey.

The only reason to own and/or buy a Gamecube right now would be to play Mario based or Legend of Zelda games. The multiplayer support sucks (if it even still exists) so if your son likes to play multiplayer stick with the PC or wait until the next generation of systems has been out for a little while, like around the first price drop. I own one because my eight year old loves Mario and I love the Zelda games. Other than that the cross platform releases seem to look and play better on Xbox or PS2. It is a system on its last legs, especially with the new Nintendo system coming out. I have seen rumors of backwards compatibility with Gamecube games, so even if he wants it for the new Legend of Zelda game due out this holiday season you might want to wait.

The Gamecube is a good machine. Yeah there is a new generation machine coming out someday. He is asking for one now, so I assume he knows what it is and what games he wants and he probably knows that it is not the most current machine out there. We have most of the systems around the house, but the Gamecube gets most of the action. My kids love it. Price is right nowadays too.

Gamecube is a great machine for kids in my opinion.

    Hey

My opinion is the gamecube is for younger kids. It really doesnt have all the games as xbox or ps2, they are more childish. Plus i really advise not buying any systems because the new ones are coming out (ps3, xbox 360, and nintendo revolution) in a few months.

Also the gamecube has bombed out of the market, so i advise not to get nintendo systems in the future also.

But they do make the best handheld tho! :)

    This is just my opinion.

    See ya.

There are a LOT of good games that have gone majorly overlooked for the gamecube. I own that, and a PS2. After the crazy of Final Fantasy and Grand Theft Auto games, I really didn't find much else on the PS2 that could hold my interest for more than a Blockbuster Rental. The Gamecube on the other hand is currently still on in my room.

A few game choices are Resident Evil 4, but be careful with that one, it is rather bloody and can be a bit scary. I really enjoy the length and gameplay, but then again using a shotgun to blow the head off of a parasite controlled farmer doesn't bug me too much. If you don't like those sorts of things you might want to go check a trailer of the game and see if it's too bloody ext.

Super Smash Brothers Melee, a very cool fighting game with no blood. One of the best multiplayer game out there.

Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. Not the best Zelda game, but It is amazing in graphics and has some great gameplay.

And if he's into RPG's, then Tales of Symphonia is one of the most amazing ones i've ever played. Great graphics, interchangeable storyline, I actually have never made it to the end of the game. And that's with 3 weeks of rental play ;) .

Thats all just my opinions though. Good luck with the GC issue.

Thats because for the most part the make the only handheld excpet for psp which is pretty recent. I agree with the gamecube having childish games like mario... Thats why i prefer playstation or xbox.
