    Hey.

I'm another one of those video gamers out there and every real game i play is crashing. The games include:
    1. Simpsons Hit and Run - I just get windows send report message.
    2. Halo: Combat Evolved - Minimizes and says "Gathering Exception Data," then the send report message. I looked at all help for this, still unanswered
    3. Battlefield 1942 - Just quits to desktop
    4. Battlefield Vietnam - Also quits to desktop
These are the only games i have really played. They all crash. I don't think theres anything wrong with my RAM. I sometimes run a RAM freer, and when it quits there is like 200 RAM left. (Don't worry, i'm positive this is a good ram freer because i've tried with others too). The games just seem to quit randomly even when i have restarted my comp afresh. It has nothing to do with internet, because it quits offline too (simpsons is an offline game).
    Here is my system info:
    CPU - AMD ATHLON XP-A 1833 MHz (5.5 x 333) 2500+
    Motherboard - Asus A7V8X
    Memory - 512 MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM
    Video Adapter - NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X (128 MB)

If i have left out anything, please tell me. I have been having this problem for months!! Please help!

Thanks for your time ahead of time!

Forgot to mention that I have the latest versions of DirectX and video drivers. I also forgot to say that I already tried setting all my settings to as low as possible. I guess that's not the problem either. Also, I forgot to mention that the game only quits (as far as i know) during gameplay, not in the startup menus or any other menus.

Definately try memtest as omegamerc suggested, it tests to see if your ram encounters an error as it reads and write. If that cycles through a few hours w/out error then at least you know its not the ram. Have you done anything to your system latelly? Or is this a fresh build? If the games worked before then look back to any system changes you might have made. (if your ram isnt bad of course.)

have fun and I hope it's not multiple things!

Thanks a lot for the quick reply guys. Can you please tell me how to run the memtest? What do I do?

    Thanks a lot.

Anyone want to tell me? How do I use the program?

If I remember correctly you have to put it on disc and then run it on boot up.

    good luck

Well... I put the iso on a floppy and rebooted... It said either nonbootable disk or error on disk. Now what? Is that saying something?

iso? Was it a zipped file when you downloaded it and did you unzipp it before putting it on disc?

It was a zip file with and iso file in it. I used alcohol 120% to mount it on virtual device, and there was nothing there when i opened it. I just followed directions.

Did you download it from here?: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download350.html

I did, unzipped it, and it is the manuel and a .exe file so maybe re-download it from here. Also I guess I was unaware of this but apparently only the "upgraded" version runs off a floppyy. the freeware one runs after you boot up into your os. Its all in the manuel.

good luck and I hope your prob is finally solve.

Well, I used the program, and 7 problems were found in about 5 minutes! I just stopped it at 140% because I knew it had problems. Every like 40 seconds a problem would be found. Now what do I do? Does this mean I need to get a new ram stick?

try ur ram stick in another ram slot, it might not be the stick thats faulty but the ram slot. if this dont make a diff, then ull probably have to go for some new ram... could be worse

I agree w/olley. Either way though it looks like you are going to have to fork out some $ for a new item. Hopefully you just bought whatever went bad just a little while ago? If so then you should be able to send it back if its been less than a certain amount of days (usually like 30 days or so). If you end up having to buy new ram I recomend upgrading to 1 gig. You'll love the speed increase.

Good luck and I hope it all works out for you man.

This problem sounds familiar. Which version of Windows are you using?

Sorry for the late reply. I'm using windows xp. I WILL try to switch the ram slot, thats a great idea! Thanks! I'll notify you guys later on what happens (if anything at all).

I have the same problem with Halo. I've had Halo for awhile now, but here recently, its been giving me the same problem. I've even uninstalled/reinstalled the game, after a week or so, I get this problem. Infact, I reinstalled Halo a few days ago, played in a few servers, and everthing seemed fine, then tonight I get the error again, and the game was working perfectly earlier this afternoon.

I have similer specs as the oriignal poster, and my ram seems to be fine. Thanks ahead of time for any suggestions.
