Doing a build for a friend who wants to do some serious gaming. All "high end" components including memory from Crucial. There is a choice with the memory which will be sitting on a Gigabyte GA-8KNXP P4 800FSB. We can either go for 2 x 1gb pc3200 = £547.52 or 4 x 512 of pc3200 = £220.84.
Given the massive price differential does anyone think the perceived performance increase will be noticeable / justifiable ?

I think you are going overkill on ram for a gaming rig.

I usually can't get full useage out of my 1gb with even the most memory intensive games.

I agree 100%, 1G should be plenty unless you're doing CAD stuff..

I agree as well...1 gig of ram is way plenty for any of todays games...

Thank you all for your advice...................

We went for 4 sticks of 256MB DDR3200

I have 1 gig DDR on an average system and I've never used more than 560-570 meg of ram. Games were Unreal 2003, Call of duty, Links 2003 and Nascar 2003. Just my 2 cents.
