Hi, I have a Gateway 6020GZ notebook and I have a problem with my Ethernet controller. I was troubled with an FU Virus in my notebook 2mos ago and after looking for possible solutions I came up re-formatting it (though 1 of my friends told me that Avira AntiVir could solve my problem, and yeah it was 1 of the solutions). After formatting my computer, I downloaded the drivers available in Gateway support but couldn't use my LAN connection in the office and in our home for DSL connection. I've tried searching the driver from the Gateway support but they could not show any.

    Welcome to MajorGeeks!

Gateway is not my favorite company for obtaining drivers. If you can find out exactly what make and model the device is you should be able to get the divers from the people that made it. Or from their site (for Win XP) http://support.gateway.com/support/...latform=10022&model=10536&os=10406&type=10095

You can use a program like Everest or SIW for computer information.

It seems Gateway may have some unusual driver installation methods. I am working on my flakey memory there though! When you find the right driver, search for a help file and read the instructions for installing the drivers. I may be mistaken, the destructions will clear that up for you. :-D

    Hi

Its very possible you will need to install the Intel Chipset Driver first then the ethernet driver

    http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?st=pn&param=4991

Intel Chipset is this one D00231-001-001.exe - Gateway Intel(r) Chipset Driver Revision: 6.2.1.1001

and LAN ethernet is this one D00267-001-001.exe - Gateway Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller Revision: 4.27.0.0

Also check in Device Manager for any yellow ! marks and tell us what items that are by.

    Happy holidays!

Thank you for the comments Fred_G and Halo

I have installed all the drivers available in the net from Gateway support (http://support.gateway.com/support/d...=pn&param=4991), i.e., sound card, video card, modem, motherboard (D00231-001-001.exe - Gateway Intel(r) Chipset Driver Revision: 6.2.1.1001), network downloads - wireless, D00267-001-001.exe - Gateway Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller Revision: 4.27.0.0). But still, the ethernet controller doesn't function:cry. It is aslo shows in the device manager (yellow ?):confused

Perhaps, I could just put this computer in a trash bin:cool joking,, hehe

    Hi

If showing still as a yellow ! mark in Device Manager, then enter your BIOS and make sure Onboard LAN is set to enabled.

Also could in Device Manager right click the ethernet controller and choose uninstall, then reboot and reinstall the drivers.
