Gateway all in one will start but nothing else

Hey guys,

I have me a Gateway all in one model ZX4300 i bought roughly 3 years ago, worked fine up until the summer. I left it alone because i have a laptop that works but i miss the gloriousness of a massive touch screen computer so i would like to figure out whats wrong with it.

It boots up, loads fine. Runs windows seven, so once i get through the "starting windows part" all i can see is the mouse pointer. the mouse pointer moves but the rest is a black screen.

i've read into the problem and i am at a loss for what to do and was wondering what to do. Gateway support is awful... tried that. I haven't brought it anywhere yet because i'm very diy and wanna see if i can fix it before i spend the money on it, or if it's worth it. everything i've read speaks about the screen not turning on at all, but mine does, just doesn't load the operating system? i have it ripped open, and i can see that when it turns on the fan doesn't turn on... whether that relates to the heatsink working is beyond me

yeah i tried, tried everything.

after talking to gateway and microsoft frustratingly for a few hours i figured out its not related
to my hardwsre at all. its the operating system that failed me so theyre sending me a recovery disk and hopefully that does it
