Gateway antivirus

    I posted in hardware a while back about firewall routers but unfortunately didn't get much response about it, so I'm assuming most people on the forums don't use them.

    But anyone familiar with using any gateway antivirus? I have the annoying Norton on my computer and wanted to switch more of the antivirus checking at the border rather than on the computer. I'm hoping for recommendations or even product names. I know Sonicwall and Zonealarm have gateway antivirus programs, any others I should know about?

    Can you enlight me what is the diference between regular anti-virus programs,and gateway anti-virus programs.

    Must have missed your post sadly, but yes I do use a NAT and SPI based router from Netgear, they also incorporate in mine a DG834G v2 gateway Antivirus from Trend in the form of their Micro Security Services , but I do tend not to use that, I have the NAT and SPI functions of the router enabled, but prefer to use Software based Antivirus in the form of Avast Home ( free ) personally.

    I was not a member then.
    I'm not exactly sure what your question is. If you are setting up a wired network, you'd use a router. AFAIK, all routers include a hardware firewall. Were you looking for a recommendation on a specific router?

    Sonicwall appears to be a product geared towards businesses. Most of the posters here are home users so wouldn't use an expensive business product.
    The recommendations I would give are not gateway av products but desktop ones.
