Gateway Driver and Application CD -- Nero InCD issue

I uninstalled then reinstalled Nero 6.0 and InCD several months ago because

of an error I saw when the computer started up. Error--InCD Kernel file

system error. After the reinstall, the error was still there, so I

uninstalled again--it remained uninstalled until yesterday.

Yesterday, after putting the Gateway Driver and Application CD in the drive,

I see the following over the window: 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem --

C:\Program~1\Gateway\HPA\biosid.exe -- C:\Program~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL An installable Virtual Device Driver failed Dll initialization. Choose close to terminate the application.

Using that Gateway CD, I re-installed Nero and InCD yesterday and saw the

error again this morning when I started up the computer. I uninstalled Nero

and InCD today and then ran CleanTool for Nero and InCD from the Gateway

Driver and Application CD. Note: I did not have the latest versions of Nero

    6.0 and InCD installed--there is a Nero update 6.6.1.4 and InCD 4.3.23.2

    available.

Also, yesterday when I opened System Info in Nero SmartStart, I saw: 16 bit

    MS-DOS Subsystem -- C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe --

C:\Program~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL An installable Virtual Device Driver

    failed Dll initialization.

Also, today when I used the Gateway configuration scan (hardware, software, etc.) on the Gateway web site, the following appeared over the scan: 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem -- C:\Program~1\Gateway\HPA\pcpbios.exe -- C:\Program~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL An installable Virtual Device Driver failed Dll initialization.

I used the Norton Removal Tool today, but have not used Symantec--Norton

Internet Security since 2008, which is when I uninstalled it.

Is this a virus--do I need to run antivirus/malware scans like AdAware, Kaspersky, Malwarebytes or registry scans like Hijack this?

Or do I need to update Nero and InCD--or update the driver

for the CD-R/RW/DVD drive--or uninstall Gateway Driver and Application

Recovery from the hard drive and then reinstall from the Gateway CD?

    Hi.
First of all, I must say that your post was a little hard to read, what with the random double line breaks.

I would like you to go to My Computer, right click the blank space, click Properties, go to the Hardware tab, then click device manager. Now, go through everything there and tell me if there is anything with an exclamation mark as the icon.

Thank you for responding. I found no exclamation marks as icons in Device Manager. Here is some additional information: OS: Windows XP Home Edition SP3.

    Alright.

Try this. Download the latest update, and then see what happens from there.

Surprises me that the driver for the virtual CD would be 16 bit based.

If you have any problems accessing\navigating the registry, let me know!
