Gateway ZX6970 will not launch any programs

    Operating System - Windows 8

    Brand Name - Gateway

    Model - ZX6970

Prologue - Friend dropped his AIO computer (both monitor and tower combined in one). It landed on the top right corner (looking at monitor). As a result, he rarely can log in, and when he does, he cannot start any program. When trying to open an internet browser, it will open the window, but nothing will be displayed in the window. Not new tab info, not default page, not any plugins/addons, not even the little bar at the bottom left to tell you what it's trying to load/connect to. His processing speed also seems to be horrid; just typing text happens very slowly.

Repair attempt - Two moderately skilled pc repair & net tecs opened it up carefully. One of the repairmen (whom repairs PCs for a living) accidentally put the 4Gb memory stick in the 2Gb DIMM slot, and vice versa (possibly unrelated to the following). In the end, after re-seating everything, the computer now will not even turn on. Pressing the on switch simply causes a tiny logo in the bottom right to flash occasionally. The motherboard was removed and inspected for damage. The hard drive was swapped out, but served no purpose since the computer won't even turn on now.

Notes - One thing I found odd, I was unable to enter the bios. I tried every F key. As you can imagine, the customer doesn't look at us very nicely now (it was my dad's friend's son; We are not a business, nor were we being paid for the work we spent half a day on)

    Thanks for any help!

The memory being swapped between slots is very unlikely to be the problem.

The issue is the PC was dropped. Even an experienced tech cannot eyeball a motherboard and see hairline cracks or other hidden damage.

The flashing light with nothing displaying on the screen is usually a sign of a motherboard problem.

I did not find any replacement motherboards available for this model when I searched ebay. Your friend may not like this answer; however I think the PC is toast. My advice is to scrap it, buy a new one and buy an accidental damage plan for the new one at www.squaretrade.com.

    Hope this helps.
