    Hi,

a few days ago I partially downloaded a language course from isohunt and decided, after storing it in a folder on my desktop to delete it - it seemed too compicated to burn it etc. Now, however, everytime I boot up, or restart after standby, all the folders (98 I think), with files of pics inside, reappear on the desktop. I've deleted them again and again to no avail. I have avast antivirus etc and after doing a scan found a virus called Win32 Crypt-FWF(drp) and put it in the virus chest, but still it happens!

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in anticipation

    Garry

If you open your msconfig, do you see any entries related to that under the startup tab?:wave:wave
    And what is your OS?:wave

    Hi Brandypeppy,

No, nothing sinister in startup I'm afraid. Also, my OS is Windows XP.

    Thanks

    Try this program, process monitor.
    http://majorgeeks.com/Microsoft_Process_Monitor_d5553.html
Run it, click on the tools, select tree. On the right are the companies whose software is running on your computer. Look closely at any non-microsoft, anything related to the software?:wave:wave

    Hi

As you downloaded off P2P then I would be thinking that you have malware, even if you deleted the main files, malware is rife on P2P, so likely as Avast has flagged a Win32 virus and quarinteened it, its likely you have more malware on your PC as they generally come with associated virii, so you could have multiple infections, the first one is to think you have removed it but they are sneeky and have some that have various named files so many scanners cannot find easily, need a trained eye.

So best to read and follow the following READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide and once finished please start a new thread in the Malware Forum plus a guide on how to attach the logs HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

    Hi Brandypeppy and Halo,

thanks to both of you for your suggestions, but, just by chance, I noticed that even when I'd deleted the constantly returning folders from the desktop and from the torrent list in Isohunt, that they were all still in Windows Explorer as well as the main program (Rosetta Stone). Since I deleted them from here rather than just from the desktop, they haven't returned. This was probably just a beginners mistake on my part, but once again, thanks to you both for your advice. (I hope it's ok to say thanks to 2 people with one message?). If they pop up again I'll write back.

    Best Wishes

    Garry

    Hi

Garry, yep thats fine to thank as many a you wish in one post, there is also a thanks button to the bottom right of all posts apart from your own to say thanks with also.

Cheers for the update and do post back if you have issues on this topic again, but I would just run through that Malware guide and if anything pops out do get it checked in the malware forum area, as some malware can lurk undisclosed.
