G'day I need help to open pdf files.

    I used to be able to open them but now when I click 'open' I get a Security Alert 'Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded.'

    I assume you mean an email attachment? Either way, what operating system or email client are you using?

    Sorry for the lack of information. Yes it is in an email and I use Vista Home Premium and IE8. Thanks

    Under tools tab at the top of your email client, you need to find options or safety options. You can uncheck do not allow attachements to be downloaded that could potentially be a virus. Optionally, your email might have an option near the attachment to download it.

    Just be careful with attachments now, you don't want to get in the habit of opening them unless it's a trusted sender :) Glad we could help.

    Thank you - I will be careful. Do you have any idea why I need to uncheck this box now to read pdf files when previously it was not necessary. Has something else changed that I need to attend to? Thanks.

    Hi Amelia, what caused it to happen was probably an update to your email client that caused a default to [probably] the most secure settings, if you are not having any other problems then you are unlikely to need to change anything.

    A further suggestion is to open a PDF doc and go to Help and check for updates, this will ensure the application itself is the most current.
