ok, dont know if this goes here, or even if you guys allow this question to go through, but im giving it a shot. does any one know of/have links of a good, perferably free, dvd ripping program to save movies on your HD. i just got a new 32 inch HD moniter for my computer. I wanna watch movies on this thing, but i also want to back up my collection, any suggestions? much appreciated! and like i said, if it dosent go here/not allowed here, Thanks anyways. Running windows BTW.

+1 for WinX_DVD_Ripper; it is almost idiot proof and I'm the idiot who can use this. :-D It rips protected DVDs.
We must own about 80 movies. The problem: when I travel with my eeepc, I do not want to drag an external DVD drive and DVDs along. I ripped 8 movies we own to avi files, put them on two 4GB sdhc cards. I keep one card in the sd slot on my eeepc and the other I throw in the camera case with a spare sd card for the camera. It was very easy to watch what I wanted when I wanted.
Of course, ripping a DVD takes almost as long as watching the actual movie so be prepared to tie up the computer while you are doing this.
