Checking your video driver kind of depends on which version of Windows you're running.... the most universal method would be to click "Start" (or the 'orb' in Vista/Win7), click "Run" (there may not be a "run" option in Vista/7 so skip this step), type sysdm.cpl and press Enter. In the Window that opens, click the "Hardware" tab, then click the "Device Manager" button. In the list that comes up, look for any yellow ? question marks ? and/or red X's and/or ! exclamation points !. Chances are, you'll have a question mark or exclamation point with "video controller" next to it (or something similar). This means that your video/graphics driver is not installed. If you need help locating and installing the driver, please provide the make/model of your PC and the version of Windows you're running, and we'll do our best to help. If you're unsure of the make/model of your PC (or motherboard, or video card), attach an Everest report. More info about using Everest and attaching the report can be found in this post by MG member Halo.

    I hope this helps!

HP does not seem to have video drivers for this PC... first, download and install the chipset software from this link. I'm pretty sure it contains the video drivers along with a bunch of others. After installing and rebooting, if the video driver is not installed, download and install the video driver from this link. It's an HP 'update', but 95% of the time, these 'updates' function as full drivers, especially when installed thru the Device Manager and Have Disk method. More info on how to do this along with an illustrated guide can be found in this post. Follow the steps starting at the very beginning, but skip to where it says "DO NOT INSTALL", so do not install the driver you just downloaded from HP, use the guide, except use "HP" where you see the word "Gateway", and use "video" where you see the word "wifi" or "wireless". ;)

GOOD LUCK! Let us know how it goes!

(I'm assuming you have Windows XP, since any other version of Windows would have installed drivers automatically for that PC - I also strongly suggest that you install Service Pack 3 for Windows XP if you haven't already; you can download it from this link)

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

If that doesn't work (and it should), I believe that model uses the Via Unichrome video - you might try browsing the Via site for compatible software.

    No pain. ;)

You'll have to point to the drivers you've downloaded (the 'Browse' section of dlb's tutorial).

My suggestion would be to create a designated folder for all downloads to go to.
Less searching means less sarcasm and things would be easier to locate when wanted.

I'm not sure if we actually helped the OP fix the problem, or if $200 was paid to some schyster to install a driver..... I can't tell from the last post from the OP above..... I REALLY hope it was us.....
