I have recently started getting alot of slowdown on my PC after putting in an AGP Geforce 2 MX200, programs take ages to load, the boot up is slow, but when a program is running its fine.

    My Specs are:
    Windows XP SP1a
    256Mb Ram
    AMD 1500+
    2 H/D's
Via 97 On board sound chip
    GeForce 2 MX200 64Mb AGP

Does anyone know where this comes from?

Yes, but XP worked perfectly before, but I may have forgotten to tell you something.

The GeForce 2 in my PC has always been in there, but then due to some issues with my computer (which I won't go into here) I had to put in an older PCI card (S3 Trio64V+) but then I resolved the problem just last night and put in the GeForce, and thats when the problems started.

I have been considering formatting (Something I've had to do alot with this computer) to clear away the old driver(s), but this is not a path I want to go down except as a last resort, so do you know how to clear old drivers from Windows XP?

PS: About the BIOS, there was one setting which had something along the lines of "VGA Controller" and then the options were PCI and AGP, I am using an Award BIOS and I set it to AGP.

Its not the GeForce, since I've just put in a Geforce 4 and my problems still there

have you installed the latest chipset and graphic card drivers

are you sure this issue is the graphics card, have you run scans for viruses and spyware

can you try it in safe mode and see if the problems still persist

The General is right, get more memory . Get the full gig if you can afford it, but the 512 MB will make a major diff. My system booted slow until I upgraded my RAM. If it was the Geforce card, your display would be screwy.

I'm not so sure it's the RAM. You could try a driver cleaning utility to clear out all the S3 drivers that may be slowing your system down. Here is a link to one that you might try:
