Hi guys, I'm new here and I would like to open a post about opinion.
What do you think about this video card, the Geforce 250 gs?? :confused

Well, setting aside the name game issue, that's not really a good question because there's not enough information to provide any sort of valid answer - or rather, there are too many valid answers to make any conclusions. Without knowing the primary purpose of the computer and the budget, opinions expressed can only be based on our own usage habits, experiences and expectations.

Engineers using CAE/CAD programs need serious graphic solutions (needing serious budgets too - ($3,000 card!!! :eek ) - they are not very big, might as well get two! ;)) Photo editors have different demands than CGI designers. Gaming rigs have their requirements, as do machines designed for office or school work. The same card perfect in one application may be a lousy choice for another.

For the vast majority of the nearly 1 billion Windows machines out there, the 250GS is WAY more horsepower than they need, and a waste of money. For some, it may be the perfect card at just the right price.

I will say this - It is a nice card. If it is not abused, kept clean, properly cooled, and fed clean, solid power, odds are exceedingly high in your favor that it will last many years.

So you say guys that it's the same as 9800GT, but I think for being a 200 series card it's a very cheap card and with not bad specifications, i'm thinking about buying a new vid card, that's the reason i'm asking your opinion.

    I'm in a dilemma between a 9800gt or a 250gs.... :confused :confused :confused

So, any other suggestions are welcome.

And about the budget, I don't think about spending more than 150 bucks for a new one...

    Thanks for the info guys

I don't agree with a re-branding at all, it's dusting off an ageing tech and trying to pass it off as new. It does explain why my old 9600GT was not (as advertised) 90% better than my older...er 8600GT, in fact it was a re-branded/packaged 8800GT.

It has put me right off nVidia, even though I did buy a Sapphire 4870 1GB before learning this LOL

I find the performance jump for the price to be very impressive with my new ATI card, basically I am getting a much better bang/buck ratio :-D

I don't either. I am just saying it is everywhere, done by everyone. That does not make it fair, but life isn't fair.
