geforce 4 mx 440 probs!

well ive had this geforce 4 mx 440 vid. card for a long time now, and it hasnt given me many problems until one day medieval total war started crashing. then i installed the omega ver. of the drivers, and it was fine for a long time, but then many more games starting crashing. so then i uninstalled in the drivers, and installed the latest nvidia ones. but then games kept saying that they needed at least dx7 hardware to work, which is what mine card is. so then i rolled back AGAIN and installed older nvidia drivers. its been working for a couple of weeks, but now im getting problems again. could it just be my video card? ive had it for almost 3 years now. if my vid. card is dying, i was planning on getting a 6600gt anyway. thanks in advance for the feedback.

it cleans out files that the normal installer doesn't, the issue you're having may be caused by rogue files still in you system. In a nutshell, you uninstall your current driver, then reboot, go into safe mode(press F8 after the POST) and run driver cleaner, then reboot, then then reinstall the latest drivers like normal ... be sure and read the read me and tutorial at driverheaven.net for more detail

 

well i thought it was working for a while but games starting freezing again, so i followed all those driver cleaner steps, and during the cleaning it gave me a message that it needed to restore old windows files to their original versions to protect the stability of windows. should i have said yes? because i didnt in fear of screwing up my comp.
