#gen_windows# error on my computer

I bought a new gateway laptop in Feb, since then it worked fine, but about a month ago everytime I shut down my computer I would get this error saying
#gen_windows# error saying please wait while the progam is ending. I am so so confused, I tired norton anti-virus scan, microsost anti spyware but, I even did a search thing in the start up menu, found something simliar windows.exe and deleted it. But I still have this problem when ever I shut down. I don't know if this is "adware" or a "trojan" but I also tried finding it on the norton virus list and it's not there.

Please help, I would really appreciate it.
