Generic - HCF PCI Modem

Recently I have encountered a problem with Generic - HCF PCI Modem in the Device Manager. There it said this: This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.
So, as I'm not an advanced user, I did nothing, I just left it like that. Everything was okay for a few days, but today when I turned on my PC it just kept loading and loading without an end, so I turned it off and tried turning it back on. Then on the screen it showed me these options to turn it on: Safe mode, Safe mode with networking, Safe mode with command prompt, Last known good configuration and Start windows normally. I tried both Last known good configuration and Start windows normally, but it just kept loading and loading like before without starting up, so the third time I tried Safe mode with networking and when it loaded successfully, I went to Device manager and disabled Generic - HCF PCI Modem and restarted.
Now, that modem is disabled and my PC is running well like before, but I'm afraid that I will have more problems because of that modem in the future, like the PC won't load and start up again.
I'm thinking about uninstalling that modem, but I don't know if that will cause a problem too, 'cause I don't even know what is it for and why do I have it installed in the first place. So, should I just leave it disabled or try uninstalling it?

I have attached the system info. I copied everything from Belarc Advisor just for precaution, 'cause I didn't know what will help exactly. It's in a doc file, I didn't know how else to save it, sorry. Hope this can help too.

Hi, eky. Welcome to Major Geeks. :)

The Generic - HCF PCI Modem is a modem card that would give you dial-up internet and faxing capabilities. If you don't do either, you can leave it disabled.

Hi! Thank you and thanks for answering. :)
I don't use dial-up internet nor a fax machine, although my brother has a printer (Lexmark X5650) that has faxing capabilities and sometimes use it, but only for scanning newspapers and such. So just to be sure, that can't cause a problem, right?

If you do not have a phone line connected between the printer and the computer (HCF PCI Modem) then you never use the computer for faxing only for printing, scanning and copying as you currently do.

I do see an additional problem.

You are still using Windows XP nine months after Microsoft ended support.

So am I but, I incorporated the POSReady Registry Key I was made aware of on May 25th of this year into XP Pro SP3 and I've gotten Updates from Microsoft every month ever since. I don't know if the same would be true for XP home. In fact, I don't even recommend it be tried with XP Home.

Oh, I see. I don't have that. Thanks for explaining. :)

As for the XP problem, I didn't encounter a problem with that yet, my PC is running like usually... But if it's necessary, I'll get Vista or Windows 7 (I don't think they have W8 in my country yet :/ ).

What country do you live in? AFAIK, China was the only country to ban Windows 8.

Serbia. Idk, my friend told me that it will take years for W8 to arrive here. She was joking, but it can be true too, because we are always behind other countries.

Years? Forget about Windows 8. Get Windows 7 or wait for Windows 10.

Windows 8 is available in Serbia >source< and if you need it, there's also a Serbian Language Pack. But, personally, I'd go with 8.1 and not 8 (I'm running 8.1). It, too, is available in Serbia.

Yeah, I see now. Well, first I need to buy a new PC, cause this one is like 7-8 years old and the processor is only 1.80 GHz, so I don't think it's strong enough for the newer Windows versions. Even if it would be strong enough, I don't know how much would the entire PC last, it's already been repaired far too many times.

On a side note, it seems like I have that stupid modem installed, it's in the programs list. I don't remember it being there before or that I manually installed it, but now that I think back maybe I have by accident when I updated the PC drivers by some updater I used a few months ago. :-o
Should I uninstall it? I'm afraid that it will affect other programs or something and crash the computer, but if I don't it need it then why keep it? Or if I create a system restore point before uninstalling, will that help if something goes wrong?

My laptop was made in 2005 and shipped in 2006 and I bought it used to begin with. I don't have the finances to buy a brand new computer. I've had to replace the system (mother) board, the inverter board and the graphics card. But, it does have a 2 GHz CPU and 2 GB of RAM. Yours is, apparently, capable of running 7, 8/8.1.

Making a Restore Point before uninstalling a device and/or it's associated software is ALWAYS a good idea. But, I don't think uninstalling the modem software should create problems or crashes because you simply don't use it.

Yes, but the main reason why I want to buy a brand new computer with a better CPU is that on this one I can't watch HD (720p and above) videos. The CPU goes crazy when I try watching those, the CPU usage is at 100% and the video just keeps stuttering. If I could, I would buy only the CPU, but the guy at the service said that it can't be bought like that, that it comes with the PC only... Also, I think the cd/dvd drive is broken or something, it won't burn any cds and recognizes only a few cds when inserted. I also don't have the money for it now, I'm just planing it.

I'll try that, creating a restore point and uninstalling. I hope it works. Wish me luck. :3
